In
1995, a friend was giving away kittens and she asked us
if we wanted one. We spend about two weeks deciding if
we wanted another cat. Finally, we determined that we
did want another one.
We went to pick him up and as soon as we
saw him we fell in love with him. He was a tiny little
thing. We brought him home and after a few hours of him
being scared, he started to come around and started to
get used to us. We hadn’t thought of a name, as we had
not seen the kitty until we picked him up. We noticed
that he would wake up every two and a half to three
hours and asked to be petted, and when sleeping he would
do so just like a baby. Therefore, we named him Baby.
It took a little time for the oldest cat
to get used to Baby, and when he did, he started
teaching Baby everything he knew, including how to seat
at the front door and “sing” to attract the birds
outside. Just like to oldest one, Baby made a trip to
the Vet so he could not only get his shots but get
neutered. When he came home from the Vet the oldest cat
was very careful and caring of Baby.
Baby grew up being very attached to us,
and he demanded attention and to be petted more often
than a normal cat. As far as he is concerned the more he
is close to a person the better he feels. The time came
to take him back to the Veterinarian for his regular
annual check-up. When my husband brought him back home
he told me that Baby suffered from Asthma. I thought
that it was amazing that the cat would be an asthmatic
just like I was. Needless to say, Baby started to get
more attention than before and he loved every minute of
it.
When he is not feeling well he goes and
lays down on my pillow or my husband’s pillow and sleeps
until he feels better. Recently he had a very bad asthma
attack and I was afraid that he would have to go to the
hospital but the asthma finally stopped and he slept
most of the morning. In the afternoon he was feeling
better and was back to his normal self. He spent some
time playing with the other two cats. Even though
Baby is attached to my husband and I and he requires
extra attention from both of us. it was obvious from the
beginning that his favorite person was my son. Baby goes
out of his way to get my son’s attention and affection.
Not that he needs to do so, but he demands a lot of
constant attention from him when he is around. However,
when we have a visitor, he hides in my bedroom until the
person is gone and then he comes out. He does not like
strangers.
He is a very interesting character and I
don’t know what my life would be without him and the
other two cats. They keep me company and give me a lot
of love.
