Horton “H-Man” the Reluctant Sharer passed away after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Horton, a gray Chiweenie with unmistakable ears (earning him his name from Horton Hears a Who), spent his life making sure no one in the house was ever too far away or too comfortable without him adjusting things.
He was bossy, dramatic, and deeply sweet, often all at the same time. Horton had very specific standards his food was never shared, bedtime had to be observed, and blankets were not optional. If he couldn’t be found, it wasn’t a mystery. He had simply gone to bed and tucked himself in, as any reasonable dog would.
He was a skilled nest builder, carefully piling blankets into the exact arrangement required for optimal comfort. He refused to share food under any circumstances, remained highly suspicious of other dogs, and had strong opinions about affection. Only mom’s kisses were acceptable, others were questionable and mildly tolerated. Horton loved being carried around and saw no issue with barking until someone picked him up to take him to his favorite places.
He shared his home with his brother Charlie, with whom he maintained a lifelong and competitive sibling rivalry. Horton typically considered himself the winner. Also of the home are his aunts Pippi and Stashia as well as grandmother LuLu. His favorite humans were his brothers Michael and Tate, Tate being the one most often required to carry him around. He enjoyed sitting in the sunshine with his dad and cuddling with his mom.
After several months battling cancer, Horton passed peacefully in his sleep. He fought hard, and he did it on his terms. He leaves behind a house that is far too quiet, empty blankets and people who are still expecting to be told to move his bed closer to them.
We love you H-Man and miss you terribly.
