Your first few years were a little hard. Your owners didn’t know how to take care of a little pup and sent you to the shelter. When your time was up the kind people there released you in a family park in hopes that a nice family would take you home. An angel dog lover found you and took you to the shelter to see if your family was looking for you. The angel saved your life and took you on a plane to Long Island as a “Cali” girl. You went through a few families until you found your forever home with us. We were instant friends from the moment we met. I understood you and I knew you were meant to be with our family. You didn’t like the cold and sometimes snowy winters on the east coast at first but you adjusted and made it through. I loved putting you in your little sweaters. Thumper and Vinny became your new pals. You grieved with us when it was time for them to cross the rainbow bridge and keep watch over us. You welcomed Benny as a puppy and you were a mother to him when he cried. Three months later Melissa and Mike added Princess Mia to our family and you watched them play and grow together. You traveled with us camping and to K9 competitions where you were the boss among the Police dogs there. We shared many adventures. You were my shadow, my little girl, my best friend. We went shopping together and for rides in the car. Everyone thought you were so cute and wanted to pet you. You loved riding in the back of the golf cart with the wind on your pretty little face when it was too much for you to go for long walks. You went for an occasional swim in the pool on hot summer days. We sat by campfires in the backyard and you sunned yourself on the front porch. You curled up next to me every night and went to sleep. We snored like champs together so John would have to sleep somewhere else. You fit right in to our family with your love of food. Dog treats, cheese and your favorite – enjoying pizza with me. On our road trips we’d stop for a slice and you’d be right there ready for your share. For thirteen years the holidays and birthdays were special because you were there celebrating each one with us. You are loved and will be missed beyond words. You will always be my shadow sweet little Miss Mali boo-boo. I know you will be waiting for us on the other side when our time comes.
