Neo Geise

September 29, 2012 — January 10, 2026

Neo came into our lives in the most unexpected way. As an 8 month old puppy who’d been hit by a car, and suffered a fractured femur, his owners surrendered him to be euthanized at the veterinary clinic, where our son, Ian, worked. During the euthanasia procedure, he started wagging his tail and lifted his head, despite the pain caused by his injuries. The vet stopped the procedure, our son brought him home and a few hours, and $2500 later, he had a titanium plate and a new lease on life! Our son, Ian, nursed him back to and within 6 months he was running like a racehorse! We failed as a foster family and fell madly in love with our boy! There was no way we could hand him over to another family. Neo lived life to the FULLEST! He traveled with us from Key West to Maine and everywhere in between. His carsickness made it interesting. He loved riding the ferry to Ocracoke! He was the best brother to his dog-sister, Gidget. He shared his bed with her and all of our cats. His best cat buddy, Seamus, could always be found snuggling beside our gentle giant! He loved to snuggle with the many foster kittens we cared for over the years. He would sigh and pace frantically when they cried, waiting for their bottle feeds. He loved to groom them and was just the best cat-dad ever. Neo loved holidays and birthdays! He was the only pet that would comply in wearing party hats! He loved watching and sniffing as presents were unwrapped. We lived near a police and fire station for 6 years in Burlington. When the sirens blared and passed by our house, Neo would cock his head back and join them with his unmistakable howl. Although a gentle giant, he was fiercely protective. One day we returned from a family outing and noticed our exterior phone lines for our alarm system were cut. We can only assume that the intruder was met with a ferocious growl when trying to break in. No further damage was done! There simply aren’t enough words to describe the blessing it’s been having this boy in our lives. He was the most loving and gentle dog we’ve ever known. He gave us so much love! We feel so fortunate to have had him in our lives for over 13 years. We take great comfort knowing that he is at the Rainbiw Bridge with his sisters, Gidget and Shelly, and that we will see him again one day. He is without pain and perfect in Paradise. Thank you, Neo, for being our Best Boy, our sweet Bubby, and giving us all the love. You will be in our hearts forever."
