A Clean Alternative to Cremated Remains

Solidified remains are a complete alternative to cremated remains that allow you to live comfortably with your departed. The solidification process compresses conventional cremated remains into a beautiful collection of “stones” that you can hold, share, scatter, and travel with.

  • How many "stones" is an average dog?

The average dog is 5-40 stones. The exact number of stones returned depends on the volume of remains provided. A good rule of thumb is that we will return a similar volume of solidified remains’ stones as the volume of ashes that we receive. In other words, 1 quart of ashes will return about 1 quart of stones.

  • How many "stones" is an average cat?

The average cat is 2-10 stones. The exact number of stones returned depends on the volume of remains provided. A good rule of thumb is that we will return a similar volume of solidified remains’ stones as the volume of ashes that we receive. In other words, 1 quart of ashes will return about 1 quart of stones.

  • How can I be sure I am getting my pet’s remains back?

Parting Stone is a company of pet lovers and understands your concern. Every set of remains they receive is labeled and tracked throughout the entire processing. They have individualized equipment for each step of the process and the ashes are never mingled. A single Parting Stone technician handles your pet’s remains throughout the process.

  • How are Parting Stone solidified remains made?

    1. We mail a collection kit to retrieve 100% of your pet’s cremated remains.

    2. We remove impurities like metals and implants.

    3. The ash is turned into a clay-like material, and the stones are formed.

    4. The remains are heated in a kiln, solidifying the ashes into stones.

    5. Finished solidified remains are polished and returned home.

  • How long does the solidification process take?

The solidification lead time varies depending on our current order volume. For new orders, our current estimated wait time to begin the process is 2 weeks and our current estimated completion date for orders placed today is 56 days. We recommend placing your order as soon as possible to reserve your spot in line.

We always prioritize the safekeeping of the decedents in our care over speed.

  • How long will the “stones” last?

Solidified remains look, feel, and behave just like stones.  They can be broken with a hammer, but otherwise will last as long as a stone found in nature.

  • What color will the stones be?

The color of solidified remains is 100% natural. Many pets result in white stones, but some are a hue of blue, green, or a radical variation.

  • I am concerned about the environment – is this environmentally friendly?

Solidified remains are much gentler for scattering than cremated remains.  Cremated remains can damage delicate ecosystems, but solidified remains look, feel, and behave like stones and don't damage or change the ecosystem at all.
